Health and Social Care interviews
As part of the application process for a Health and Social Care course, candidates whose initial application to LSBU is successful will be invited for an interview.
The interview is the last part of the selection process and is an opportunity to explain face-to-face to LSBU academic staff and our Health Trust partners why you are the right student for the course. To help you prepare for the day we have provided you with some useful interview guidance below including our own interview tips. Make sure you also review the guidance specific to your course.
Documents to bring
- Passport/driving licence: Your identity will be checked against your passport or driving licence. You must bring one of these documents with you to your interview. If you forget we will not be able to interview you.
The Multiple Mini Interview process (MMI)
The MMI comprises of no more than six applicants moving around five individual stations to be interviewed by separate interviewers in a one-to-one interview. The starting point for each applicant is different but each interviewer will ask the same question of all six applicants in turn. Four minutes is allowed for each answer and one minute for moving between stations.
The first interviewer will ask a starter question so your time with them will be eight minutes.
After you have answered the last question you will be given a written question. You will be allowed five minutes to write a short written answer.
If you have any support needs and require reasonable adjustments please email the Admissions Team at least 48 hours before your interview.
Interview preparation tips
- Ensure you get a good night's sleep the night before your interview
- Give yourself extra time for unexpected travel disruptions
- Dress smartly and appropriately for your interview
- Be clear, confident and convincing about your reason for choosing this career
- Reflect on your personal qualities, skills and what you have learnt through any placement or work experience with your answers
- Stay calm and collected; take your time to consider your answers
For the subjects listed below there is bespoke interview guidance:
Our Southwark campus is situated near the Elephant and Castle underground station and train station and has several bus stops outside. Our Havering campus is situated near Harold Wood train station. There is no parking available at either University campuses. For information on travelling to the campuses and local transport links, visit our maps and travel page.
You are advised to arrive at the interview venue stated in your UCAS invitation letter 10 minutes prior to your interview time and report to the reception desk. You will be met by a Health Interview Assistant, who is a Student Ambassador or member of staff. They should be able to answer your queries about being a university student at LSBU. If you have been accompanied by anyone they will be asked to wait in a quiet area until your interview is over.
If you have been successful at interview you will be notified through UCAS Track, usually within two weeks of your interview, and offered a place on your chosen course.
