Driving new ideas in the digital economy

The Institute for the Creative and Digital Economy establishes LSBU as an incubator and generator of new thinking, practice, research and products to disrupt the digital economy.

The Institute will encourage digital psychologists, programmers, developers and digital creatives to develop a centre of excellence for new ideas, products and services that will impact on the digital economy.

Figures published in 2016 reveal that the Creative Industries are worth £84.1 billion, generating g £10m per hour for the UK economy.

At every stage the Institute will encourage participation and partnership with digital industries. This includes exploring co-funding of innovations via the university’s links with UK and EU government funding calls

Our purpose

  • to develop initiatives in digital practice, research and digital products and advanced digital services.
  • to encourage partnership working with local and national practitioners for mutual benefit.
  • to assist the creation of cross-platform ideas with partners.
  • to coordinate ground-breaking insights using a multidisciplinary approach.
  • to explore co-funding of innovation via the University’s links with UK and EU funders.

Cutting-edge facilities

The University’s many digital facilities are available to facilitate these aims. These include digital audio, film and broadcast labs, in addition to its VR Gaming and Digital Manufacturing labs.

In 2016 the Creative Industries grew by 8.9%, almost double the UK economy as a whole.
